One person has been taken to hospital after two vehicles crashed on the A1(M) in County Durham, causing tailbacks of up to four miles on Tuesday afternoon (October 25).
Emergency services were alerted to the collision near Chester-le-Street at about 12.40pm, with the North East Ambulance Service dispatching multiple units to the scene.
The incident on the northbound carriageway caused major traffic disruption as one lane was closed and tailbacks of up to four-miles long were reported.

A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Police were called shortly after 12.40pm today to a two-vehicle collision on the A1(M) northbound between Carrville and Chester-le-Street.
"One person is believed to have sustained injuries as a result of the collision and has been taken to hospital."
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 12.42pm to a two-vehicle collision on the A1(M) northbound between the junctions with Durham and Chester-le-Street.
"We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance, a rapid response paramedic and a clinical team leader.
"One patient taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary."
The road was cleared a few hours later and traffic flow has returned to normal.
