Police have confirmed a man has died following a devastating fire in a home in the North East city this afternoon (October 22).
The incident happened shortly before 1.30pm this afternoon (Saturday, September 22), on Northumberland Street in Wallsend.
Pictures from the scene showed forensics teams at the scene as they investigated a property where it is believed there had been a fire.
Windows in the property were smashed and the front door had been removed.
Police later confirmed that a man had died following the fire and had been “pronounced dead at the scene.”
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “Shortly before 1.30am today (Saturday) police were contacted by Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, who were dealing with a fire at an address on Northumberland Street in Wallsend.

“Officers and emergency services attended and sadly a 43-year-old was pronounced as deceased at the scene. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death has been launched.
