A woman suffered spinal fractures in a car crash on the A19 in Billingham.
She was the passenger in a red Mercedes that was travelling southbound near Wolviston when it left the road and entered a layby.
The car then collided with a large metal holding wall at the side of the road.
It happened at 4.30pm last Sunday (October 16) and police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact them.
A Cleveland Police spokesman said: "The male driver got out of the vehicle but the female passenger sustained a spinal fracture.
"She was brought out of the car by fire brigade and ambulance service colleagues, then taken to the University Hospital of North Tees.
"We would appeal for anyone who saw the car - or captured it on their dashcam -in the lead up to the collision or of the actual incident.
"Please contact Cleveland Police on the 101 number quoting ref 185955."
