North Yorkshire Police has confirmed that hit TV show Traffic Cops will return to screens across the UK - as fans of the programme have welcomed the exciting news.

The Channel 5 crime show, which follows North Yorkshire Police and other forces across the UK in their fight against crime, first hit screens in 2003, and since then, has become a firm favourite for telly fans.

In previous series, which have been narrated by Jamie Theakston, the cameras have followed officers and detectives from North Yorkshire Police to investigate some of the most serious, silly, and dangerous cases from across the region.

Despite no previous news being released about the show and when it will return, North Yorkshire Police sent fans into a frenzy on Sunday (October 16) when they confirmed that Traffic Cops would be back on our screens.

It's been several years since the police cameras have been in North Yorkshire, with some series' following Durham Police, Avon & Somerset Police, and Greater Manchester Police.

Taking to their social media site, North Yorkshire Police said: "Traffic Cops is back!

"It's official, a new series of Traffic Cops featuring our very own Roads Policing officers will be back on your screens very soon.

"Three years since we last featured and the team have been on the road with our officers getting all of the behind-the-scenes footage and lowdown on how we police the 3,000 square miles of our county."

Now that it's been announced, the police force have even told people what to expect after adding: "From a massive drugs bust to a heart-stopping high-speed pursuit with an incredibly tense but successful outcome, the series is described by the producers as featuring some of the most dramatic incidents they've ever filmed so it's sure to be an exciting one."

As of yet, there is no release date for the new Traffic Cops series - but North Yorkshire Police have told fans to "watch this space".
