New figures have revealed which of the UK’s airports had the fewest delays this summer – and it’s good news for holidaymakers flying from Teesside.
The stats, released by the Civil Aviation Authority, reveal how many flights were delayed or cancelled in July as the busy summer season got underway, as well as the length of delays passengers had to endure.
Teesside Airport came out on top as the most punctual airport in the country in July, with an average delay of just 11 minutes and nearly half of all flights taking off early.

42% of flights from the airport took off between 15 minutes and one minute early, while 7% took off more than 15 minutes before their scheduled departure.
Teesside also came joint first for the number of flights cancelled, with not one scheduled flight called off, of the 323 which took off from the airport in July.
Reacting to the news Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “There’s nothing worse than getting to an airport and sitting in a departures lounge for hours on end waiting for a delayed flight or, even worse, to find out it’s been cancelled. This shows that if you chose Teesside, you weren't held up this summer!

“I’m over the moon that our airport team is working flat-out to turn Teesside around and all their efforts are paying off, as July saw us named the best airport for punctuality and cancellations.
“This, coupled with recent figures showing that we were one of the only airports in the North to be above pre-pandemic passenger numbers at the height of summer, shows the airport is heading in the right direction.
"I’d like to thank our passengers for choosing Teesside and backing their local airport.”
