A Hartlepool man is due to stand trial next year charged with the murder of Norman Ryan.
Kieran Potts, 23, appeared at Teesside Crown Court on Tuesday when he denied killing the 55-year-old.
Mr Ryan died in hospital on September 9 more than a week after he suffered serious injuries in an alleged incident in Troutpool Close, Hartlepool, at the end of August.
Potts appeared at the crown court over a video link from Durham Prison where he is being held on remand.

The court heard that evidence is still being collated and needs to be assessed by defence and prosecution counsel ahead of the trial next year.
Judge Howard Crowson remanded Potts in custody until his next court appearance.
The family of Mr Potts described him as an 'entertainer' paid tribute to the loving son, dad, brother, uncle, and grandfather.
They said: “He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. He was such an entertainer and was always singing Elvis songs.
“He was very religious and was always telling his family to pray to the Lord.
“We will miss him enormously and would like to ask for some time alone to grieve in peace.”
A provisional trial date was set for March next year.
