The number of people in hospital with covid in the North East has increased by more than 47% on this time four weeks ago.
North East hospitals were caring for 447 patients with Covid-19 as of 8am on Wednesday (October 5) last week, new figures have revealed.
NHS England data shows the number of people being treated in hospital with Covid had increased by 47%, from 304 patients four weeks ago.

In County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust hospitals, the number of people who tested positive had increased by 41% in the last four weeks, from 63 patients to 89.
While York and Scarbrough Teaching Hospitals Trust was caring for 157 coronavirus patients in hospital as of Wednesday, up a massive 85% on four weeks ago.
It comes as the number of people in hospital with the disease has increased nationally.
Across England there were 9,631 people in hospital with Covid as of October 5, with 195 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.
The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalised nationally has increased by 98% in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators has increased by 67%.
