Drivers are continuing to feel the pinch at the pumps as one of the region’s cheapest petrol stations announced it was having to put up prices.

The JET station at Etherly Moor in West Auckland said it was having to put prices up due to an increase in wholesale prices earlier this week.

That follows the national picture as fuel stations have warned their prices have again crept up due to changes beyond their control.

However, prices are still falling compared to where they were earlier this year when some forecourts started charging £2 a litre.

The average cost of a litre of unleaded petrol was 162.43p on Tuesday (October 4), according to data from RAC Fuel Watch, down from an average high of 191p in July.

Meanwhile the price of diesel has also fallen, with a litre costing on average 176.53p.

And here in the North East residents in one town are continuing to benefit from consistently cheaper prices compared to elsewhere in the region.

Bishop Auckland has regularly had some of the cheapest prices of any petrol stations in the North East, with one station currently charging just 151.9p for a litre of unleaded.
