Angry motorists have been left battling traffic of up to three miles long on a major North East road - as pictures today revealed the extent of traffic.
People travelling on the A19 between Peterlee and Sunderland say they have experienced traffic woes every day this week - with some considering different routes.
On Monday and Tuesday, vehicles were hampered by two collisions, a stalled vehicle, and heavy traffic flow.
Meanwhile, this morning, cars and HGVs were confined to one lane after a lorry stalled on one of the A19 lanes, leaving drivers queued for three miles and an extra 25 minutes.

Despite the unavoidable collisions on the A19, some are now considering using alternate routes through Sunderland or on the A1(M) – with drivers telling The Northern Echo that they “have little choice” after battling something new on the A19 each day.
One motorist, who wished to remain anonymous said: “The A19 is a joke – every day, I’m queuing for at least 25 minutes and I have to be at work.
“It’s the same on the evening as well – something has to be done about it or it’s going to become a glorified car park before long.”
However, they’re not the only one that is considering having to make changes to their journey, with one motorist posting on social media: “I’m going to have to start going even earlier to work on a morning, I normally set off at 8.40am to get to Gateshead, I start work at 10am. I’m probably going to have to leave at 8 because it’s getting bad lately.”
In relation to this morning's stalled vehicle, Highways North East released the following statement: “One lane closed and slow traffic due to stalled vehicle on A19 Northbound from A690 Durham Road (Herrington Interchange) to A183. Lane one (of two) is closed.”
