A businessman is bringing his mouth-watering Cypriot food to Darlington Market after being blown away by its facilities and warm atmosphere.
Olives Cypriot Food, which offers an array of wraps, salads and side dishes, is the latest addition to the market’s food hall operated by Market Asset Management.
Dishes at the venture set to open on Thursday, October 13, include meat, halloumi, and feta gyros – cooked on a spit, marinated in Greek herbs and lemon, and served wrapped or stuffed in pita bread.
Owner Erdem Volkan, 24, said he can’t wait to take up his place at Darlington Market following the departure of Hungarian vendor Taste of Budapest.
He said: “It is perfect for me and I feel both myself and Darlington Market can grow together. It has great facilities and a warm welcome and atmosphere.”

The impending arrival comes after Yarm-based Bliss Desserts – a new business offering milkshakes, frappés and a delicious mix of traditional and innovative sweet treats - is due to open inide the facility.
The two new introductions come despite several other traders leaving the indoor premises. Six 'street food' traders opened when the market was revamped in August 2021, but only two (Spud Gun and Manao Thai) from the existing launch now remain.
MAM’s General Manager for Darlington Markets, Michael Harvey said: “We're really excited to see yet another fabulous addition to the Street Food Hall at Darlington Markets. The cuisine that Olives Cypriot Food offer will add something completely different but complement the diversity of street food available perfectly.”
