Police have confirmed that a 21-year-old man has been charged with murder after a man was found dead in student flats yesterday.
Officers were called to the Mansion Tyne accommodation, on Howard Street, at around 4.30pm on Tuesday after receiving a report of concern for the welfare of a man.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, near the Quayside, but the man was sadly confirmed dead soon after.
A 21-year-old man was soon arrested in connection with the incident and remained in police custody.
Northumbria Police have confirmed that the man, Aaron Ray from Mayfield Road in Sunderland, has been charged with murder.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Newcastle Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Saturday, October 1).
Forensic officers were seen working at the block of flats on Thursday afternoon, while officers continue to conduct inquiries into the incident. A police cordon erected within the grounds of the block of flats remains the only sign of police activity.
Students spoken to at the scene on Thursday said they hadn’t been told much about the incident and had resumed their everyday activities.
Northumbria University confirmed the 24-year-old was enrolled at the institution before his death.
A statement read: “We are deeply saddened to confirm that a Northumbria University student has died.
"We are in contact with the student’s family and friends to offer any support we can at this tragic time.
"As this is an ongoing police investigation we are unable to comment further."
