A popular airline has been forced to cancel flights to Disney World and Florida due to the ongoing effects of a once-in-a-lifetime hurricane.
TUI issued an alert on their website this week confirming that flights to Orlando airport have been cancelled after it was forced to close due to Hurricane Ian.
The Melbourne-Orlando Airport will be closed until Friday and the airline service said they will be “proactively contacting” all customers impacted by the cancellations to “discuss their options.”
They added: “We apologise for the disruption to our customers’ holidays, and we’d like to thank them for their understanding.”
Tui has cancelled flights from Newcastle and Gatwick to Melbourne on Friday, September 30 as well as flights from Glasgow and Birmingham to Orlando on Thursday, September 29.
The flights cancelled by TUI are as follows:
Thursday, September 29:
- TOM742 – Glasgow to Melbourne-Orlando
- TOM664 – Birmingham to Melbourne-Orlando

Friday, September 30:
- TOM046 – Gatwick to Melbourne-Orlando
- TOM754 – Newcastle to Melbourne-Orlando
In a statement on social media, the airport said their goal is to “resume normal operations as quickly as possible.”
Today the airport is set to reopen following at “comprehensive damage assessment.”
It said: “Following a comprehensive damage assessment, MLB will safely reopen and return to normal operations at 6am on Friday, September 30.
“We have notified our airline partners of our plans to reopen and passengers are asked to contact their airline directly for flight status updates.”

The death-toll for Hurricane Ian has risen to 21 deaths so far, however, most are yet to be confirmed by officials related to the storm.
Severe weather has caused devastation across Florida as people were trapped in their flooded homes.
The hurricane is now approaching South Carolina and the entire coast of the state is under Hurricane warning.
