A man who has admitted taking part in a house burglary while armed with a screw driver was told to expect, “a substantial period of custody”, in due course.
The warning was given to Robert Jones after he admitted a charge of aggravated burglary arising from a domestic break-in in Peterlee, County Durham, last month.
Appearing at a Durham Crown Court plea hearing, via video link from the city’s nearby prison, where he is on remand, the 26-year-old defendant admitted aggravated burglary at the address in Adrian Place, on Wednesday August 24.
The charge stated that jointly with another he entered the property and stole aftershave, while at the time being in possession of a screw driver.

Jones’ counsel, Rebecca Brown, asked for the preparation of a Probation Service report on her client before he is sentenced.
Agreeing to the request, Recorder Tom Moran said the report would need to address the perceived “dangerousness” of the defendant.
The Recorder told Jones: “In seeking a report I’m giving no indication of what the sentence will be.
“You have had the good sense to plead guilty and you will receive credit in due course for that.
“The court needs to know more about you.
“I’m sure you know you will receive a substantial period of custody and the report will assist with that.”
Recorder Moran remanded Jones, of Peter Lee Cottages, Wheatley Hill, in custody pending sentence on Thursday November 3.
