Overnight road closures will be in place for several weeks on part of the A66 near Teesside Park to allow for resurfacing work.

A section of the A66 between the junction at the A1130 and the A19 Stockton Road Interchange will undergo a programme of essential carriageway replacement and resurfacing from this Sunday (October 2).

Bridge joints will also be replaced on the stretch of road which carries the A66 over the Old River Tees.

National Highways project manager Michael Morgan said: “The new carriageway will greatly improve journeys on this busy route, making it smoother and safer while reducing the need for further closures in the future.

“To keep disruption to a minimum we are carrying out the work overnight, however, we still advise drivers intending to travel during those times to plan their journeys in advance and allow more time to reach their destination.”

The first phase of work gets underway on Sunday.

This will mean overnight road closures on the eastbound carriageway between Teesside Park and the A19 Stockton Road Interchange for around two weeks.

Once this is complete, work will begin on the westbound carriageway for a further two weeks from Wednesday, November 2.

All closures will take place from Sunday to Friday, between 8pm and 6am each night.

The road will be open as normal on Saturday nights.

While closures are in place, traffic will be diverted from the A66 via the A19 and A1130.
