A householder was seriously injured during a violent burglary in a North East town.
At 11pm on Friday, August 26, police received a report of aggravated burglary on Newbold Avenue in Sunderland.
Officers were contacted by a member of the public who reported seeing three men believed to be carrying a weapon, attempting to break into a property in Sunderland.
It was reported the offenders kicked down the front door to access to the property, causing damage in the process.
The occupant confronted the offenders, who assaulted and seriously injured him, before they fled the scene in a red vehicle.
An investigation has since been launched and Northumbria Police officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward to assist with their enquires.
