A North East shopping centre was evacuated today (Wednesday, September 28) after a suspicious item was found in the car park.
Emergency services attended the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre in Hartlepool following reports of the unidentified item in the multi-storey car park.
The whole shopping centre was evacuated, along with all businesses within a 500 metre radius of the site.
However, upon further investigation, it was established that the item was not dangerous.
A Cleveland Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to Middleton Grange Shopping Centre earlier this afternoon after what was believed to be a suspicious item was found in the multi-storey car park.
“Following an evacuation of the shopping centre and businesses within a 500 metre radius, and further investigation, it was established that the item was not a threat to anyone and all who were evacuated could return to their premises.”
