A pub has undergone a major renovation to create a “country pub with a real difference”.
The Old Farmhouse, near Middleton St. George, Darlington, reopened its doors to guests on Friday, September 16, with an upgraded interior and menu for customers new and old.
The historic pub has existed near the village for over 250 years, though it did not begin as a farmhouse.
Originally, the building was used as an inn called The Wheatsheaf, before being converted into a farmhouse by a retired sea captain. In the 1950s the building was left empty but was converted back into a pub in the early 1980s.
Changes inside the new-look pub include the addition of a stylish private dining area, a new garden and elegantly styled interiors.

In addition to lunch and dinner, the pub will now offer a brunch menu which boasts a selection of popular dishes from 9am until midday Monday to Saturday and 11.30am on Sundays.
Plus, the new dinner menu will offer dishes including chargrilled skewers, stonebaked pizzas, steaks and roast dinners.
Following a significant investment, 10 new full and part-time jobs have been created for the local area and the Darlington pub is currently seeking to recruit talented new team members for both front and back-of-house roles.
Andrew Ashton, general manager at The Old Farmhouse, said: “We’re working hard to create a truly unique and stimulating experience for our guests and are so excited to unveil the new Old Farmhouse to the local area.
“The changes that are currently underway are all centred around creating an original country pub with a real difference. The new Old Farmhouse will provide both our regulars and first-time guests with an exciting location to enjoy high-quality dining in beautiful surroundings.
“Both myself and the whole team are incredibly excited to welcome guests to experience the new Old Farmhouse for themselves, we hope that they love the transformation.”
