Along with great food options, the venue has also received high-praise with four-and-a-half stars out of five for food, service, value and atmosphere.
It has also picked itself up a TripAdvisor 2021 Travellers’ Choice Award.
Cross Keys Inn has received 303 five-star reviews out of 407 altogether, with 67 of those being four-star reviews.
One person said: “Went for a lovely Sunday dinner and couldn’t decide on the desserts so had 2…. I must admit the salted Carmel brownie was amazing even better than Tinder.”
2. The Three Horse Shoes, Running Waters, Durham
Another venue to pick up a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award, this pub is also a great place for classic pub food.
Praised for its “outstanding service” and “fab food” the venue has scored four-and-a-half stars in food and service, and four stars in value.
The Three Horse Shoes has received 226 five-star reviews, 80 of them being four stars, out of 348 reviews altogether.

One person said: “Visited today with my husband I had turkey dinner and hubby had beef and ale pie absolutely delicious. Great service, best Sunday lunch in along time defo recommend.”
3. Travellers Rest, Front Street, Witton Gilbert, Durham
Travellers Rest has been praised by reviews for being a “real gem” a long with having “great service.”
The venue has scored four stars in all aspects, such as food, service, value and atmosphere.
Picking up a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award, the business has scored 298 five-star reviews out of 493 altogether.
One person said: “Sunday lunch for myself boyfriend and toddler - quite pricy but worth the money the beef was just melting and everything about it was beautiful, best Sunday dinner I’ve had in a long time - my little girl got chicken which was still large amount and was so tasty, partner got succulent chicken and we ended it with Icecream , sticky toffee pud and chocolate brownie - amazing defo going back.”
4. Stonebridge Inn, Nevilles Cross, Durham

5. The Farmers Arms, South Side Shadforth, Durham
Described as a “traditionl country pub with a twist” on its TripAdvisor description, the venue serves “hearty food, a warm welcome and great ales.” It is also dog-friendly too.
The Farmers Arms is extremely well reviewed, and another venue to pick up a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award.
Praised for its “outstanding value for money” this classic pub has scored 165 five star reviews out of 217 altogether.

One person said: “Took the family for sundays dinner and could not fault the place. Really nice inside with great decor and had a real good atmosphere about the place.
“Staff are brilliant especially Jemma who looked after us. The Sunday dinner was excellent, the best iv had in a long time. really good quality meat and the veg was really fresh and tasty. The beer was cheap as well!”

Bistro Citron Vert has scored itself four-and-a-half stars in food, service and value, and has been described as a “treasure” by visitors.
The business has received 195 five-star reviews out of 245 reviews altogether, 37 of those being four stars.
One person said: “I visited this great little place after seeing a review in the Northern Echo saying it was one of the best Sunday dinner’s in Durham.
“I must say, we were not disappointed. I had the lamb, which was beautifully tender and flavoursome.
“My girlfriend had the chicken which was equally as good- a great selection of veg to accompany (including delicious honey roast carrots).
“Special mention must go to the pavlova which made an excellent pudding. The service was great, and the staff were really friendly and polite; we will definitely be returning!”
7. Travellers Rest Belmont, Broomside Lane Belmont, Durham
Finally, the most highly-reviewed venue on our list, Travellers Rest Belmont describes itself as “warm and friendly.”
The business offers “good beer, food and company” and are within walking distance or a small drive to some of the “best nature attractions in the area.”
As previously stated, although it hasn’t received many reviews, the venue is extremely well-reviewed, scoring five stars in food, service and value.
It has 22 five star reives and 2 four star reviews out of 24 reviews all together.
One person said: “I've been here for steak night but never tried their Sunday lunch. Well I have now. Great value at £9.50 for one course. Really nice food and loads of meat. Very tasty and we will be back again.”
