A North East village has been hit by a second suspected arson attack in just four days after a coach depot went up in flames last night (September 14).

Seaton Burn in Newcastle has faced another suspected arson just a few hundred meters away from where another blaze broke out in the early hours of Monday (September 12) morning.

Police and six fire crews were called to the scene of a huge fire on Wednesday night at the depot of coach firm North East Coach Travel on Front Street, near to the A1, after reports that a number of coaches had been set on fire.

Officers are now investigating the blaze and treating it as a suspected arson attack.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “At about 9.30pm on Wednesday we were alerted by the fire service to a blaze in the Front Street area of Seaton Burn.

“It was reported that a number of coaches parked in a depot had been set on fire. Thankfully nobody was injured and the fire was extinguished by emergency services.

“An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the fire and enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible. At present, officers are treating the fire as suspected arson.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or by calling 101 quoting log NP-20220914-1128.”

Police are also investigating the blaze which occurred on Monday morning , which was also extinguished by fire crews.

The Northern Echo understands the two fires are currently being treated as separate incidents.

The spokesperson added: “Anyone with information [about the car fire on Monday] is asked to contact police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or by calling 101 quoting log NP-20220912-0063.”

A Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson told The Northern Echo: "Last night (Wednesday 14th September) around 9:15pm we received a call about a fire at a coach compound in Seaton Burn. 

"Five appliances from across Tyne and Wear and one from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service were on the scene in a matter of minutes to begin bringing the blaze under control. 

"Upon arrival it was clear that a number of coaches were on fire in the compound.

"The fire was extinguished and our crews left the scene at 10:33pm.

"Thankfully no one was injured and today we are supporting Northumbria Police with their investigation into the fire.”
