Railway services, buses and roads have faced disruption due to a "police incident" with drivers previously urged to avoid the area.

The A658 in North Rigton, near Harrogate, was shut for a number hours on Saturday (September 10) as police were on the scene.

Rail operator Northern Trains confirmed trains had either been cancelled or delayed due to the "emergency services dealing with an incident."

It is understood that the closure is in relation to the discovery of a body in the search of a missing woman, although this has not been confirmed.

The Harrogate Bus Company said that buses in the area were severely affected due to the cancellation of railway services.

The road has reopend with traffic easing.

This comes as police confirmed a body was found in search for missing Judith Holliday who was last seen 14 days ago in North Rigton.

A report was made at 12.22pm today (Saturday, September 10) and the railway was closed as a result.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “We thank everyone who has supported the missing person inquiry.

“Our thoughts are with Judith’s family.”

Before the body was found today, Lucinda Edwards, Judith’s niece, thanked the community for their support in helping search for her.

She said: “We’re so grateful for the level of support our community has shown in our mission to locate Judith.

“Judith and anyone living with an illness like hers deserves to have this level of support and awareness to keep them safe.”
