Darlington has been hit by heavy rain, leaving parts of the town’s roads flooded and certain businesses having to close.
Newton Lane in Cockerton, on the outskirts of Darlington, was left underwater for several hours early this morning (Friday, September 9).
As Newton Lane leads to West Auckland Road, known for being extremely busy as a route out of Darlington, and Woodland Road, a major route into Darlington town centre.
Despite the flooding causing havoc around Darlington, some schools have remained open despite the difficulties.
St Mary's Church of England Primary School in Cockerton took to social media to show the extent of flooding in the area and warn families on their way to school to take care.

Posting on the school's Facebook page, the school said: “The conditions around school due to the heavy rainfall are making it very difficult to gain access. If you are able to, please keep the children at home until the rain eases and the roads have a chance to drain. Hopefully, after the morning rush and the clouds have emptied things will improve.”
St Mary's confirmed any absence due to the adverse weather conditions will be authorised. The school has kept parents and pupils informed of the flooding all morning, with footage showing the extent of the flooding.
Reports on social media suggested that Asda on Whinbush Way in Darlington was closed due to the shop being flooded, which Asda confirmed.
An Asda spokesperson said: “Following the heavy rainfall overnight and into this morning, our Darlington supermarket was closed until 10am. We are back open as usual and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
