A cost-effective new travel ticket has been launched to make it even easier to get to and from the Great North Run.
Nexus, the public body which owns and manages Metro, has this year introduced the Great North Run Day Rover to provide customers with an affordable multi-mode travel ticket on the day of the run - this Sunday, September 11.
It is ideal for people who need to travel on multiple modes of public transport before or after the run.
The Great North Run Day Rover is available for just £6 from any Metro ticket machine and is valid on Tyne and Wear Metro, buses, the Shields Ferry and Northern Rail services between Sunderland and Newcastle.
In addition to these new tickets, all bus operators will be accepting each other's single, return and day tickets for journeys from South Shields, making it simpler to hop on the first bus, Metro (or Shields Ferry) that comes.
Runners and spectators heading to the Great North Run on Sunday are being advised to pay for their travel in advance from any Metro ticket machine in order to save time and keep the queues moving more quickly.

“Customers can buy one from any Metro ticket machine. It costs just £6 and for that you get unlimited travel on Metro, local buses, the Shields Ferry and Northern Rail services to Sunderland.
“It’s a great option for those people who need to use more than one mode of public transport to get to the Great North Run start line in Newcastle and get home from the finish in South Shields afterwards.
“It is always best to save time and pay for your travel in advance for the day of the Great North Run, which is an extremely busy day for the local public transport network.”
