The North East has been rocked by thunderstorms and heavy rain lately, and it doesn’t look to be letting up anytime soon.
Today cloud will bring heavy showers across the North East, with some areas seeing some thundery showers as well.
Although it is set to be a warmer day, with a maximum temperature of 22c, it may not feel that warm due to all the rain.
Tomorrow, the region is also set to see further heavy and thundery showers.
Here’s when the thunder and lighting will hit the North East tomorrow:
The Met Office has said that throughout the afternoon many areas may see “persistent heavy rain”, which could become thundery.
In Darlington, residents could see thunder and lightning at around 3pm with a 70 per cent chance of storms, however, the rest of the afternoon will just see rain.
For residents in Durham, the picture is the same with a 70 per cent chance of thunder and lightning at 3pm, with rain permeating the afternoon between 12pm and 10pm.
More Northern areas such as Sunderland may escape the storms with just rain predicted throughout the day.
The same can be said for southern areas such as Northallerton, who are set to see mostly rain from 11am to around midnight.
What’s the weather like for the rest of the week?
Moving ahead into Friday through to Sunday, further heavy showers, sometimes thundery, have been predicted.
However, things will ease on Saturday and become mostly dry for Sunday with variable cloud and sunny intervals.
The full long-range forecast between Monday September 12 and Wednesday September 21, reads: “An unsettled start to the week with spells of rain for most, which may turn heavy at times, especially over western areas.
“The best of any drier and brighter weather is expected over eastern areas. Low pressure at first across the south should gradually be replaced by high pressure building from the southwest.
“A mix of sunny spells and showers or longer spells of rain is likely to continue through the rest of the period.
“Northern and western areas are likely to see the most of the rain and showers with southern and eastern areas expected to remain drier with an increased chance of mist or fog patches developing overnight.
“Temperature are likely to remain warm throughout.”
