A disgraced detective has been kicked out of the police after he was caught drink driving.
Detective Constable Martin Bolton was dismissed with immediate effect after he was convicted of driving whilst over the limit in April this year.
A Cleveland Police disciplinary hearing ruled that the officer had committed two counts of gross misconduct as a result of being more than twice the legal limit.
The 40-year-old was arrested and breathalysed after being stopped on Sussex Street, Middlesbrough.
Details of his first breach of professional in respect of discreditable conduct happened read: “On the 18th of April 2022 when the officer drove a motor vehicle after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in his breath exceeded the legally prescribed limit, specifically the evidential breath sample recorded 79 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath (the legal limit being 35 micrograms).”

The second breach occurred when on June 6 when the officer was convicted at Teesside Magistrates’ Court for driving whilst over the prescribed limit of alcohol, having pleaded guilty to the offence.
The panel ruled that the breaches of the Standards of Professional Behaviour were so serious that they amount to gross misconduct.
He was dismissed with immediate effect.
