The sun came out to play and enjoy the live bands in Darlington’s Market Square for the Music Box festival at the weekend.
The two-day festival had DJs from all over the North East playing their favourite soul and disco sounds all weekend.
Then on Sunday the town centre came alive with the sounds of Smoove & Turrell headlining the main stage, with The Big AC Soul Revue featuring Nick Corbin, Abi Farrell, Carmy Love and Emma Noble, King Bee, Weekend Sun all playing live and Ashley Beedle, Steve Tolson and Mr Watson DJing.
The Music Box festival was revived when offered the main stage by Darlington Borough Council to host a soul, funk and disco weekend as the town has such a close relationship with the music. The DJs around the town were organised by local record shop owner, Daz Carr.

The Sunday lineup was curated by James Watson who also hosted the main stage and DJ’d at the start of the day. James and Daz worked alongside Dave Johnson who owns the Liquor brand in town to bring this big event to the area.
Marie Brown, who came along to the event, said: “It was an incredible day, the highlight for me was having an amazing line up that attracted such a wonderful mix of audience.
“Looking around the crowd and seeing people smile, enjoying it and being engaged with all the groups. Music Box did Darlington proud. It was safe, it was fun and how the sun came out to enjoy the tunes as well was a beautiful thing”.
