A man is to stand trial later this year accused of trying to rob the owner of a sport utility vehicle.
It follows Grahame Jones’ not guilty pleas to three charges put to him at a plea hearing at Durham Crown Court.
The 57-year-old defendant denied attempting to rob the owner of a Toyota RAV 4, in Shotton Colliery, on Thursday March 3 this year.
He also pleaded not guilty to two counts of driving the vehicle while disqualified.
The first was on Cemetery Road, Wheatley Hill, on March 2, and the second is alleged to have taken place on Davy Drive, on Peterlee’s North West Industrial Estate, the following day.

David Carmichael, representing the defendant, said he denies being in the car on March 2, while on March 3 he admitted being present, but he denies attempting to remove the vehicle from the site.
The case was adjourned for a trial, expected to last up to two-days, to be staged at the court in December.
Judge Jo Kidd granted the defendant, of Johnson Estate, Wheatley Hill, extended unconditional bail, to return to the court for the trial, to start on December 13.
