It's no secret that property prices in London are astronomically high.
But it's quite staggering when you take a look at what the big money can buy you in the North East compared to the capital.
We took a look at what's currently on the market in the £2m price bracket and discovered that while it puts you firmly in the 'dream home' category in the North East - it'll just about buy you a dated flat in a desirable part of London.
This Notting Hill property is on the market for £2m and that gets you a kitchen and reception room, four double bedrooms and a family bathroom occupying the second, third and fourth floors of an impressive stucco-fronted property.
It is located in Westbourne Gardens, a quiet enclave of Notting Hill close to many boutiques, bars and eateries as well as underground stations.
The location is popular with celebrities such as Stella McCartney, Elton John and Jamie Oliver.
However, the agents describe the flat as 'in need of modernisation' and it's clear from the photographs that your £2m isn't exactly getting you high-end decor and luxurious fittings.
In the North East however, £2m will buy you a seven-bedroomed modern mansion complete with cinema room, eight reception rooms, state-of-the-art kitchen, triple garage and a large pool with integrated hot tub.
The reception rooms in this Wynyard property include a games room, cinema room, two studies, hobby room and a gym.
The home is on the exclusive Wynyard development between Sedgefield and Billingham and sits within a generous 0.57 acre plot.
Its owner will be able to use a host of local amenities including Wynyard Golf Club, Gym & Health Club, Wynyard Hall Hotel & Spa, hair salon, gastro pub, and village store.
We know which property we'd be buying if we had £2m!
