Four County Durham homeowners have been named and shamed along with a £1000 fine after failing to clear fly-tipping and waste from their property.
The residents, who have previously been issued with community protection notices about their rubbish, have found out the hard way that not complying with the rules can lead to big consequences.

After failing to follow the notices, which had been issued by Durham County Council, the local authority decided to name and shame several members of the public on its warden’s social media page.
Here are the four homeowners who have been prosecuted:
- Robert George of Brunel Street, Ferryhill (waste pictured)
- Kelsie-May Hurst of Bouch Street, Shildon
- Billie Plews of Thomas Street, Shildon
- Gary Weston of Adamson Street, Shildon
Along with the four names, the county council warden page put out a statement that said: “Several people have been prosecuted for failing to comply with Community Protection Notices requiring them to remove waste from their yard/garden.
“They were all fined a total of £1089 each for non-compliance.
“To report issues such as waste in yards or gardens please call 03000 260000 or use the online reporting system www.durham.gov.uk/doitonline.”
