Police have restricted access to a North East beach this afternoon after a suspected explosive device has been found.
A member of the public spotted the suspected explosive on the beach at Marske.
The item was described as visible in the sand on the area of beach in front of where Hummershill Lane meets Church Howle Crescent.
A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: “Officers are currently in the area and will be working with partners to arrange a safe disposal of the item.

“Until that is complete police have restricted access to the peach, this may be for some time owing to the tides.”
Police are advising people not to take the path down to the beach from next to St Germain’s churchyard or the clifftop path further along.
They have also advised the public to stay away from the area of the beach until further notice.
