A man has died in hospital after being hit by a car in South Shields.
Police are appealing for further witnesses to the incident that happened on Anderson Street shortly before 3am on August 14.
It was reported that a silver Hyundai i10 was travelling north along Anderson Street when, for reasons yet to be established, it collided with a pedestrian at the crossroad junction with Ocean Road.
The pedestrian – aged 39 – suffered life-threatening injuries and sadly died later in hospital.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "His family are continuing to be supported by our specially-trained family liaison officers as they navigate through this incredibly difficult time.
