An investigation was launched this morning following a stabbing in Stockton last night which left one in hospital and one arrested.

What happened?

The incident happened at around 3.40pm yesterday (Tuesday, August 16) and resulted in police activity in the area.

A cordon was soon erected on Yarm Road and the road was closed for a number of hours while enquiries continued in the area.

It was later revealed that Great North Air Ambulance was called to the scene and one man had been rushed to a major trauma unit in hospital after receiving stab wounds.

What's the latest?

This morning (Wednesday, August 17), police revealed that the man was aged in his 30s and continued to remain in hospital in a stable condition.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested this morning in connection with the incident and remains in police custody at this time.

What have police said? 

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police, said: “Enquiries are continuing into the incident and officers from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) continue to appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information, dash cam or CCTV who have not yet spoken to police to call the 101 number, quoting ref 145223.”

What did the emergency services say last night?

A spokesperson for Great North Air Ambulance said last night: “Our critical care team were activated at 3.48pm to reports of an assault in Stockton.

“They arrived on scene at 3.54pm and worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to assess and treat a patient.

“The patient was taken to hospital by a NEAS road crew accompanied by our team.”

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said: "We received a call to 999 at 15:37 this afternoon to reports of a person injured on Grove Street in Stockton. 

“Police attended the scene.  We sent an emergency ambulance crew, a clinical team leader and requested the support of the Great North Air Ambulance, which also attended. 

“ We transported the patient to a major trauma unit."
