A 27-year-old man has been arrested following a stabbing yesterday in a North East town.

Yarm Road in Stockton was closed yesterday (Tuesday, August 16) following a serious assault in the area.

Police were soon on the scene and a cordon was erected on Yarm Road.

The incident happened at around 3.40pm and saw a man receive stab wounds following an assault.

Great North Air Ambulance confirmed that they were called to the scene and helped ferry a man to hospital.

A man in his 30s remains in hospital this morning but is currently in a stable condition.

A spokesperson for the air ambulance service said yesterday: “Our critical care team were activated at 3.48pm to reports of an assault in Stockton.

“They arrived on scene at 3.54pm and worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to assess and treat a patient.

“The patient was taken to hospital by a NEAS road crew accompanied by our team.”

The North East Ambulance Service later revealed that one patient had been transported to the major trauma unit at a nearby hospital.

A spokesperson for the service added: “We received a call to 999 at 15:37 this afternoon to reports of a person injured on Grove Street in Stockton. 

“Police attended the scene.  We sent an emergency ambulance crew, a clinical team leader and requested the support of the Great North Air Ambulance, which also attended. 

“We transported the patient to a major trauma unit."

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police added this morning: “Enquiries into the incident are continuing and officers from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team continue to appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information, dash cam or CCTV who have not yet spoken to police to call the 101 number and quite ref: 145223.”
