A North East beach has been named among the most dog friendly in the UK according to new research.
Tynemouth Longsands beach in North Tyneside came out as the fifth most dog-friendly seaside spot in the country, and the only North East location to make the top ten.
Researchers analysed ratings of over 150 dog-friendly beaches and ranked them based on online reviews and have come up with a top ten best in the country.

The Tynemouth Beach came out with a ‘pet-friendly score’ of 8.69 out of ten making it a perfect place to walk your four-legged friends.
Durdle Door beach in Dorset was named the most dog-friendly with a rating of 9.3 out of ten meaning it could make a great holiday location for families taking their dogs with them on a getaway.
Cuckmere Haven Beach in East Sussex came second, Man O’War Beach in Dorset ranked in third place and Three Cliffs Bay in Glamorgan was fourth, all ahead of Tynemouth.

Longsands beach holds Blue Flag status, an award given for quality of sand, water and beach cleanliness and safety.

- Cuckmere Haven Beach, East Sussex (9.13 out of 10)
- Man O’War Beach, Dorset (8.99 out of 10)
- Three Cliffs Bay, Glamorgan (8.79 out of 10)
- Longsands Tynemouth North, North Tyneside (8.69 out of 10)
- Yellowcraig Beach, Lothian (8.62 out of 10)
- Marloes Sands Beach, Pembrokeshire (8.55 out of 10)
- Seacliff Beach, Lothian (8.35 out of 10)
- Bosta Beach, Hebrides (8.28 out of 10)
- Porth Joke, Cornwall (8.22 out of 10)
