To allow safety checks to take place, the store was closed. A spokesperson for TGI's confirmed no guests or staff were injured.
The restaurant has re-opened today following completion of all the necessary safety checks by the relevant authorities
Firefighters from Cleveland Fire Brigade were called out to run tests on the restaurant.
Nearby KFC was also reportedly closed.
However, traffic was unaffected by the incident and nearby roads remained open.
A spokesperson for TGI Friday’s said: “We can confirm that yesterday the Fire Brigade attended an external gas leak outside our Teesside Park restaurant to ensure the site was safe and secure.
"As a precautionary measure and to allow safety checks to take place, the store was closed. No guests or staff were injured, and we apologise to our guests for any inconvenience that this may have caused.
"The restaurant has re-opened today following completion of all the necessary safety checks by the relevant authorities.”
Cleveland Fire Brigade were contacted for comment.
