A man was taken to hospital with a head injury after police were called to an incident on Wednesday evening.
Police attended a report of a male with injuries on Ragpath Lane, Stockton, at around 11:40pm on Wednesda.
The 36-year-old man was taken to the University of North Tees with a head injury, where he remains while receiving treatment.
A police cordon was put in place outside an address on the residential housing estate.
Cleveland Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward with information about the incident.

A statment added: "Detectives from Stockton CID are investigating an assault on the man and anyone with information or anyone who may have private CCTV or dash cam footage in the area around the time of the incident is asked to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 141416."
