A burst water main has closed a road in Sunderland today.
It happened on the A1290 Wessington Way both ways between the A1231 Northern Spire (Sainsburys junction) and Northern Way.
Water several inches deep has flooded the road.
Pictures on social media show a huge amount of water covering both carriageways.
Meanwhile, one post shows a car stranded in the water.
The incident was first reported to the AA at around 4.30pm.
Some residents in the area have said their water has been turned off, with early estimates that they could be restored by around 3am.
