Police have given details following the death of a man in his 50s after a crash on the A689 this morning.
The other man involved was taken to University Hospital of North Durham for his injuries.
The crash involved two vehicle on the A-Road between Eastgate and Stanhope.
The road is currently still closed.
A spokesperson for Durham Police said: “Police were called shortly after 7.30am this morning (August 8) to reports of a two-vehicle collision on the A689 between Stanhope and Eastgate.
"It involved a Volkwagen Crafter van and a DAF HGV. Sadly, the driver of the van, a man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene - his family have been informed.
“A full road closure is currently in place whilst enquires are carried out. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Catherine Iley from the Collison Investigation Unit on 101 then extension 201940 quoting incident number 61 of August 8.”
