A college has submitted plans to extend its building to create more classroom and storage space.
Darlington's Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College has plans to create additional accommodation level above the existing two storey side extension – for existing students and a projected increase in students at the college from 2,096 to 2,329 – comprising of four classrooms, two break out/other work areas, circulation spaces, storage and roof access and associated alterations.

According to a planning statement submitted to Darlington Borough Council, all colour schemes will be considered in line with the existing building appearance and will be chosen to match the existing wherever possible
The finished roof height of the new extension will be below the ridge line of the existing principle roof on site to the adjacent main block.

The roof to the extension will be complimentary to existing original college buildings, and the pitched design ensures that this block remains subservient in appearance to the original college building.
The overall building footprint will not be increased and as such, the volume of surface water entering the mains drainage system will be unaffected.
