One person has died and another remains in hospital with serious injuries after another crash in the region today.

A woman, who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead on the scene after the crash on the A171 in North Yorkshire.

The crash happened just outside the village of Cloughton near Scarborough at around 2pm on Saturday.

It comes as three people died in a crash near Bedale last night, while a man died in a crash in Norton, Stockton earlier today.

A silver Honda Jazz had been travelling from the Whitby direction when it became involved in a crash with a black Mazda campervan near the turning to Hayburn Wyke.

In a statement, North Yorkshire Police said: "The female driver of the Honda Jazz was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene and the female driver of the campervan has been taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.

"Police are appealing for anyone who saw either vehicle in the area prior to the collision or anyone who may have dashcam footage or any other information which could help the investigation."

As of 6pm, police said the road is currently closed and is expected to remain closed for some time so drivers should avoid the area.
