Police are investigating after a man reportedly headbutted a bouncer after he was refused service at a Sunderland bar.

Officers have now traced a man they believe could have vital information about the incident in Sunderland in May.

It is alleged that a man entered Greens Bar on Low Row in Sunderland City Centre at 7pm on May 21 this year and assaulted a staff member after he was refused service at the bar and, as a result of his behaviour, was asked by staff to leave.

The man then became aggressive and reportedly heatbutted a member of security, sending him to the ground.

He is then said to have punched his 39 year-old victim leaving him with a broken leg, cuts and bruising to the face, before fleeing the scene on foot.

Northumbria Police are now investigating the incident and have today (July 27) appealed to the public for more information.

Investigating officers have now traced a man who they believe was in the area near to Greens Bar at the time of the assault and who could have vital information to assist their enquiries.
