Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of arson after parts of a North East home were completely destroyed by fire in the early hours of Tuesday (July 26) morning.

Emergency services attended a house on Rudyard Avenue in Roseworth, Stockton, at around 12.50am on Tuesday (July 25) after an early morning blaze.

According to Cleveland Fire Brigade, a fire broke out at the property at around – with firefighters from Stockton and Thornaby tackling the flames until they were extinguished at 3.10am.

During the incident, one bedroom was 100 per cent fire damaged. There was also 50 per cent fire damage and 50 per cent fire heavy smoke damage to the first floor.

Despite the flames being extinguished at around 3am, an emergency service presence stayed at the scene throughout the morning.

Alongside firefighters, Crime Scene Investigators were spotted at the scene of the house fire.

Cleveland Police have now confirmed that they have arrested two teenage males, 13 and 15, on suspicion of arson with intent.

Confirming the news, the police force said on Tuesday afternoon: “Police have arrested two juvenile males in connection with a fire at a property in Rudyard Avenue overnight. A 13-year-old and a 15-year-old were arrested on suspicion of arson with intent. Enquiries are ongoing.”
