AN award-winning pre-school in the North Yorkshire Moors is embarking on a summer makeover with the help of a grant.

Graded as “outstanding” in its latest Ofsted inspection, Osmotherley pre-school has 20 children on the register and attracts from a wide catchment area, preparing a regular supply of pupils for the village primary school as well as acting as a hub for local life.

The grant, from Broadacres Community Development Fund, will allow the pre-school to replace equipment no longer fit for purpose, including cups, plates and bowls, window blinds, flooring and fingerguards.

“We are an integral part of the community, not only for the benefit of youngsters but also as a focal point for the village,” says pre-school manager Gill Hunton.

“We are very grateful for this grant which will allow us to keep up the good work.”

The pre-school prioritizes playing in the outdoors and learning about nature and draws youngsters aged from two years to its daily term time sessions. Without it, villagers would face a round trip of many miles to the nearest alternative.

As well as the daytime sessions, the pre-school children also display their artwork and perform songs at local coffee mornings and village events.

Broadacres’ Community Development Fund supports organisations, groups, and projects in areas where Broadacres has homes, and grants are approved by the Association’s own residents, via a Community Development Fund Panel.

Broadacres resident Jacque Maylon, who is on the Panel, said: “The pre-school is clearly an important part of the community, educating children in their early years and helping working parents, so we were delighted to approve the application for new equipment.”

Applications for Broadacres’ 2022/23 Community Development Fund are now being accepted and people/organisations can visit www.broadacres.org.uk/customer-area/getting-involved/community-development-fund to find out more.
