A carnival day, classical music, poetry and Samba are all in store at Thirsk Hall Festival this summer.
Starting on Friday August 19 the opening concert takes place at St Mary’s Church, next to Thirsk Hall, and features Heritage Opera director Sarah Helsby-Hughes will directing Marriage of Figaro.
Festival organiser Benjamin Ellin will conduct Mozart’s comedy classic in a unique production uniting leading professional singers and instrumentalists alongside a festival chorus from members of the local region.

On Saturday, August 20 there will be a carnival-themed day in the grounds at Thirsk Hall which is free to attend for under 16s.
There will be live performances, fairground rides and food stalls.
Two performances of Roald Dahl’s Little Red Riding Hood will take place in the Sculpture Garden’s newly renovated gallery and there will be Samba workshop and parade for everyone to join.
In the evening, audiences can enjoy a journey through the world of folk music, from across the Tudor period up to traditional folk.

There will be food and drink as well as a space to dance at the concert in Gallery One at Thirsk Hall.
Closing the festival on Sunday at The Ritz Cinema in Thirsk will be Film & Orchestra – Charlie Chaplin’s ‘A Dogs Life’ and a selection of new short films by students of the acclaimed National Film and Television School will be accompanied by live 13-piece orchestra, conducted by Benjamin Ellin.
