FIVE pigs were killed in a lorry fire in North Yorkshire just hours after a similar incident on the A1(M) in County Durham today.
The second blaze took place at 10.15am today on the A64 near Malton, North Yorkshire.
A collapsed rear wheel bearing on the truck, carrying 220 pigs, caused the mudflap and tyre to catch fire and led to the death of five pigs.
It came just over seven hours after a lorry blaze on the A1(M)near Chester-le-Street led to 16 pigs being killed.
A vet put down 13 injured pigs and three he couldn't reach were shot by police marksmen, to prevent them suffering.
The incident closed the motorway for more than four hours.
