Rescue services sprang to the alert to help a stricken walker down from a landmark location in the North York Moors.

The North East Ambulance Service contacted Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) shortly before 1.30pm on Saturday after receiving a report that a woman had sustained a lower leg injury having slipped while walking at Roseberry Topping, near Great Ayton.

The team deployed both rescue vehicles and team members made their way to a nearby farm before heading to the spot where the casualty had fallen.

A mountain rescue call-out officer also contacted the woman’s partner to verify the location and to discuss her condition.

Shortly after that the first group of team members reached the casualty

Following an initial assessment she was provided with pain relief and her ankle was splinted.

She was then secured within a vacuum mattress, lifted onto a rescue stretcher and carried approximately 150-metres down to one of the waiting vehicles.

Once secured in the vehicle she was transported to Aireyholme Farm and transferred to a waiting ambulance for onward treatment in hospital.

The call-out, the 38th dealt with by the team this year, lasted for almost two-and-a-half hours, including return travel time.
