Ladies’ Day lived up to its reputation as the most glamorous meeting of the year at a North East racecourse.
The Pimms and fizz flowed as racegoers turned out in style and soaked up the mostly sunny weather at Newcastle Racecourse, at High Gosforth Park.
Organisers were delighted at the turn-out for the first full Ladies Day event post-Covid restrictions.
Raceday regulars said the atmosphere from every enclosure was outstanding, with a buzz brought to the racecourse by many first-time visitors and others whose only day at the races is on this occasion each year.
Although the weather was at times cloudy with hints of rain in places, overall, it remained sunny.
The style awards did not disappoint and although judges had their work cut out, the winner for 2022, chosen from ten selected finalists, was Lindsey Bambrough, from nearby Woolsington.
She sported a black and white polkadot dress, shoes were bought locally from a charity shop and her fascinator was a handmade gift from her husband.
Among the prizes was a £250 sterling silver necklace, £1,000 of hair and beauty treatment plus other rewards, including two tickets for next year’s Ladies Day.
The finalists were chosen by Tyne Tees models, who scouted some eye-catching fashion among the crowds.

On the racecourse, itself, there was a busy eight-race card, with crowds staying through to the end for a mass karaoke, dubbed Massoke, led by successful North East podcaster Rosie Ramsey.
She led by now some merry racegoers through various hit records, from ABBA to Kings of Leon.
