The Northern Pride Festival and UK Pride 2022 will be coming to Newcastle and it is a huge part of the city's Pride celebrations.

Thousands are expected to join the march as it makes its way through the city in a sea of colours.

It is a popular and vibrant event that is loved as much as it is important for pride celebrations in the North East.

We’ve pulled together everything you need to know about the event which will take place today.

When does the Pride event start?

The Pride march will start at 12 noon today (Saturday, July 23) and progresses slowly throughout the day.

We do not yet know when the event will finish and those attending have been asked to arrive early so they don’t miss out on the start.

What route will the March take?

The March is expected to start at Newcastle’s Civic Theatre.

It then slowly progresses through the city before finally reaching the UK Pride Festival grounds on the Town Moor.

Will there be any road closures?

 As the Pride March makes its way through the city roads will close while the parade passes through.

According to Newcastle City Council, the following roads could be closed between 11am and 1pm:

  • St Marys Place between John Dobson Street and Barras bridge.
  • Blackett Street for its entire length.
  • Percy Street for its entire length.
  • Barras Bridge between Percy Street and Claremont Road.
  • Claremont Road between Barras Bridge and Exhibition Park.
