The world-famous Red Arrows have been grounded due to a “technical fault”.

The Royal Air Force said on Friday that it had been notified of a technical issue which may affect the safe operation of ejector seats in Typhoon and Red Arrows aircraft.

It means all non-essential flying has been paused as a temporary safety precaution.

The world-famous jets, which flew past RAF Leeming, in North Yorkshire on Thursday, were scheduled to be flying in the region again today.

They were scheduled to do a flypast as part of the Farnborough International Airshow today.

However it was cancelled due to operational issues. The planned transit from RAF Scampton, in Lincolnshire, to Prestwick Airport, which will take them over parts of North Yorkshire, has been delayed until Saturday.

They are due to be flying at The Making Waves Festival in Irvine tomorrow.

The Red Arrows are currently based at RAF Scampton but are relocating to RAF Waddington this year.
