Four people from across the North East were charged in court for theft in the last two month.
Theft is a common crime and can land people a range of sentences from a fine to a prison sentence.
This usually depends on the type of theft, with petty theft landing a pretty lenient sentence.

Three of the people charged were from County Durham, with one person being from Middlesbrough.
Here’s four people from the North East charged with theft in court in the last two months:
- Josh Rooney, 37, of Duncombe Terrace, Ferryhill in County Durham
Rooney’s case was heard before South Northumbria Magistrates Court on Thursday, July 14.
He was charged with going equipped to a burglary when he was found with articles for use or in connection with a theft from a house.
He was also charged with not having third party insurance and two counts of failing to comply with the requirements of a community order.
Rooney was committed to prison for 16 week suspended for 12 months for the offences.
He pleaded guilty to all offences and admits to breaching the community order.
- Perry Robinson, 24, of Millbrooke Avenue, Brambles Farm, Middlesbrough
Robinson’s case was heard before Cleveland Magistrates Court on Monday, June 13.
He was charged with theft from a shop after stealing steaks to from Aldi.
Robinson was made to pay £11 in compensation for the offence after he pleaded guilty.
- Gemma Patterson, 42, of Park Road, Southmoor, Stanley in County Durham
Patterson’s case was heard before County Durham and Darlington Magistrates Court on Tuesday, June 7.
She was charged with four counts of theft from a shop after stealing two duvet sets to the value of £120 from The Original Factory Shop, duvet sets from The Original Factory Shop on another day, six jars of coffee and a box of Toffee Crisp chocolates to the value of £33 from SPAR, items of meat to the value of £20 from SPAR on a separate occasion.

Patterson was committed to prison for six weeks suspended for 12 months for the offences after pleading guilty.
She was also made to pay £173 in compensation.
- Naomi Louise Slater, 19, of East Street, Stanley, County Durham
Slater’s case was heard before County Durham, and Darlington Magistrates Court on Tuesday, June 07.
She was charged with theft from a shop after stealing joints of beef and a joint of lamb to the value of £30 from Aldi.

Slater pleaded guilty to offence and was made to pay £30 compensation.
