The cost to fill up your car has sky-rocketed in recent months thanks to the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine – but will it get cheaper, and how can I save money on fuel?

Petrol prices are 187.54 pence per litre according to recent figures, with diesel being 196.12 pence per litre, but the AA predicts prices could fall by £10.

On June 27, the price of petrol was as high as 190.93 pence per litre, showing that prices have steadily fallen.

In Darlington, currently, the cheapest petrol station is Jet on Darlington Road at Newton Park Service Station at a low of 175.9 pence per litre.

In Newton Aycliffe, the cheapest petrol can be found at the Shell garage at Forest Park Services for 179.9 pence per litre
